​Atkins James are proud to be working in partnership with Bentley Project Management, a market leading Construction and Infrastructure Consultancy to recruit a Quantity Surveyor to join their growing and successful team based in Lockington, Derbyshire.

Regarding projects, you will work on a variety of strategic Infrastructure and Construction schemes including working within or for a local government organisations, private and public sectors clients and developers throughout the Midlands, predominately £100,000 - £5million in value. We are looking for a talented individuals to undertake all Cost Management pre and post contract on behalf of the company (without being seconded full time) whilst also adding value and knowledge to the current team.


Roles and responsibilities will include (but not limited too):



  • To measure and cost construction works for cost plans and bills of quantities

  • To attend project meetings and provide advice to Clients on commercial matters of projects that are allocated to the individual

  • To create reports suitable for presentation to Clients

  • To work diligently and carefully at all times

  • To manage workload requirements and ensure that key deadlines are met

  • To work alongside Senior members of the team to ensure all Client relationships are maintained and future opportunities are maximised



  • Assist in the production of serviced land budgets & cost plans for developers / land owners / land agents etc.

  • To deliver post-contract cost management services for both civil engineering and building projects (e.g. financial reports, interim valuations, negotiation of changes and final accounts)

  • To support and assist with pre-contract cost management services for both civil engineering and building projects (e.g. production of estimates, tender documents, tender reports, contract documents etc.)

  • To assist the commercial lead for services provided as part of land valuation / land deductible cost assessments (e.g. analysing submitted costs and providing recommendations to the Client)


Any other duties that may be required by your Manager or the Company, providing you have been adequately trained to execute them. These duties may be required from time to time or on a permanent basis.


The ideal candidate will have outline experience and/or a workingknowledge of as much as possible:



  • Experience in providing quantity surveying services (pre-contract and post-contract) on multiple projects

  • Excellent communication skills, both internally and with Clients

  • Excellent organisation skills with an attention to detail and ability to multi task

  • High level of computer literacy

  • Good understanding of industry recognised construction contracts (NEC, ICC and JCT)

  • Good understanding of procurement routes associated with construction projects

  • Ability to manage relationships effectively with clients and colleagues

  • A proactive approach to achieving results



  • Appreciation for professional fee agreements and how fees are structured on projects

  • Appreciation of the appointment documents and the services that Bentley Project Management are responsible for delivering.

  • RICS accredited

  • Previous experience of demonstrating excellent client / customer relations

  • Excellent interpersonal skills around influencing and negotiating
